Why is Marseille soap cube-shaped?
The cube shape dates back to the 17th century. It was the easiest way for soapmakers to cut, dry, store, and stamp the soap. The cube also sits firmly by sinks, is easy to grip, and can be sliced into smaller pieces.
What are Marseille soap cubes made from?
Traditional cubes are made from natural vegetable oils. The green cubes are made with olive oil, while the white cubes are made with a palm and coconut oil blend.
How long does a Marseille soap cube last?
A large cube (300g–1kg) can last for weeks or even months, depending on use. The soap dries and hardens over time, making it more economical and longer-lasting.
What is the purpose of the stamp on Marseille soap cubes?
The stamp shows the factory name, oil content (often “72%”), and authenticity. It’s a mark of trust that dates back to historic Marseille regulations.
Is Marseille soap eco-friendly?
A: Yes. Marseille soap is biodegradable, plastic-free, and multipurpose. One cube can replace many chemical cleaning products, making it sustainable for home and planet.
