Why Has The Collection Changed?

Soap makers rarely reformulate a successful product without good reason.

Tadé listened carefully to feedback from customers and retailers who loved the fragrances but wanted them to be more noticeable in everyday use. At the same time, rising ingredient costs had pushed prices higher than many shoppers expected for a daily-use soap.

The result is the current Marseille Soap Co. collection. The fragrances have been strengthened, the soap produces a richer lather, and the retail price has been reduced significantly, making the range more accessible while retaining its French manufacture and natural-origin character.

Is Marseille Soap Co. the same as Traditional Savon de Marseille?

No. Marseille Soap Co. is Tadé's own collection name, rather than another name for Traditional Savon de Marseille.

Traditional Savon de Marseille follows a very particular formulation and manufacturing tradition. The familiar solid cubes are made primarily from vegetable oils, without added fragrance or colour, and were developed as practical soaps for washing and cleaning.

Tadé's Marseille Soap Co. takes a different approach. Its colourful 100g bars are fragranced toilet soaps inspired by Provence, while its liquid Marseille soaps are traditionally cauldron-saponified soaps made with olive and coconut oils and fragranced for everyday washing.

They belong to the same French soap heritageg, but they aren't all the same formulation – which is why we distinguish between Traditional Savon de Marseille, fragranced Marseille-style soap bars and liquid Marseille soap throughout our site.

Why Do They Smell Stronger?

Fragrance is one of the most common reasons customers choose a soap.

The updated Marseille Soap Co. bars use a revised formulation that allows the fragrances to be more noticeable both in the wrapper and during use. Whether you prefer the freshness of Verbena Citron, the familiar comfort of Lavender, the powdery softness of Violet, the floral sweetness of Honeysuckle or the bright bloom of Mimosa, each fragrance now has a clearer identity than the previous generation.

A soap that smells wonderful in the box but disappears entirely in use can be disappointing. The aim of the reformulation was to create a fragrance experience that better matches customer expectations.
