What Is Aleppo Soap?

Aleppo Soap — also known as Savon d’Alep — is a traditional soap handmade in Aleppo, following an ancient process that has remained unchanged for centuries. Production takes place once a year, between December and March, immediately after the olive harvest.

Only olive oil, laurel oil and soda derived from sea salt are used. The oils are slowly cooked in large cauldrons, allowing natural saponification to occur. Once ready, the soap paste is poured onto the floor, left to cool and harden, then hand-cut and stamped with the maker’s seal.

The bars are stacked into tall towers and left to air-dry and mature for up to nine months in cool, naturally ventilated cellars. During this time, the soap hardens and transforms in colour — from green when fresh to a golden-brown exterior, while retaining a distinctive emerald-green centre.

About Pure Aleppo Soap

Handcrafted in Syria for over
1,300 years, authentic Aleppo soap (Savon d’Alep) is one of the world’s oldest
and purest cleansing bars. Made only with olive oil, laurel oil, water and lye,
this traditional soap is created using the same slow, artisanal methods
perfected in the ancient city of Aleppo.

 

Aged for up to nine months in
cool, airy cellars, each bar develops its signature golden exterior,
emerald-green core and naturally earthy, comforting aroma.

 

A Craft Passed Down Through
Generations

Traditional Aleppo Soaps are
precious soaps handmade in Syria following ancient and unchanged processes,
using only olive oil and laurel oils that are saponified between December and
