Marseille soap, famous across the world. An iconic soap. Made with 72% Olive oil or sustainable Palm oil in a traditional way using a copper cauldron in and around Marseille. pH neutral, no additives, simply made with olive/palm oil. Naturally biodegradable, very kind to skin, used the world over for dry and sensitive skin.

It is a very versatile soap; many of our customers buy this soap for washing clothes as an effective alternative to washing detergents. Use by the block for handwashing or grate the soap and pop in the washing machine, not only is it free of chemicals it is biodegradable too. We love it and we know our customers love it too - it’s one of our best selling French Soaps!

Savon de Marseille comes in a variety of forms;

  • traditional cubes in 100g, 300g, 400g and 600g
  • traditional slices (or tranches) with twine to hang on the tap - the original soap on a rope!
  • and now there is Liquid Marseille soap which keeps to the artisan soap making processes of using natural olive oil

This soap has been made in this traditional way for hundreds of years. It's a genuine and pure product. The process uses natural ingredients, local artisanal skills and environmentally friendly practices.

At Frenchsoaps we visit our supplier savonneries regularly and know the families behind these special products. See how Savon de Marseille tranches are made in the traditional way from our photo's taken on a recent trip to one of our partner savonneries in Provence.
