A practical introduction to traditional Marseille soap 

Savon de Marseille is made in different vegetable oil formulations and sold in a wide range of formats. 

A smaller bar is a useful way to understand the soap before moving to a traditional 300g, 400g or 600g cube. You can see its colour and texture, understand its natural aroma and, most importantly, use it properly. 

The 100g Fer à Cheval soaps in this collection are traditional cauldron-made Marseille soap in a smaller format. They are not a different version made specifically as a sample. 

Test the laundry formulation through a real wash 

Soap Flakes are particularly well suited to trial quantities because the important question is how the soap performs in your own laundry. 

Our Soap Flake Trial Packs contain enough for multiple washes, allowing you to prepare the flakes in the normal way and use them with your own washing machine, water and everyday laundry before buying a full pack. 

This is also useful when comparing formulations. Traditional Savon de Marseille Soap Flakes and our Pyrenean Soap Flakes are both used for laundry, but they are made from different soap bases and by different processes. 

A trial pack lets you compare the soap by using it, rather than trying to choose from a description alone.

Yes. Our Soap Flake Trial Packs are specifically intended for testing the formulation at home before moving to a larger pack. They contain enough soap for multiple washes rather than a single-use sample. 

How many washes are in a Soap Flake Trial Pack? 

Our Pyrenean Soap Flake Trial Pack provides approximately 20 washes. Check the individual trial pack for its stated quantity and directions, as formulations and recommended amounts can differ.
