Composition & Ingredients
Olive & Laurel Aleppo Soap
Olive oil forms the base of the bar and is saponified in cauldrons. Laurel berry oil is incorporated during cooking and becomes part of the soap itself. This is a two-oil formulation in which both oils determine the structure of the finished bar. The proportion of laurel influences firmness and cleansing strength. The soap is then aged for an extended period to reduce moisture and stabilise the bar before release.
The Formulation
Laurel Oil
Laurel berry oil contains naturally aromatic compounds and cleansing fatty acids. In Aleppo formulations, it influences hardness, cleansing strength, and the distinctive herbal profile of the finished bar.
INCI: Laurus Nobilis Fruit Oil
Olive Oil
Olive oil forms the historic foundation of Marseille soap. Naturally rich in oleic acid, it produces a mild, stable lather and contributes to a firm, long-wearing bar with notable skin tolerance. In traditional olive-based formulations, it defines both the structure and the character of the finished soap.
INCI: Sodium Olivate
Ingredients
olea europaea (olive) fruit oil aqua (water) laurus nobilis (laurel) fruit oil sodium hydroxide

Made in Syria from olive oil and laurel berry oil, Tadé's Aleppo Soap Flakes are fragrance-free, palm-oil-free and hypoallergenic, with no added colour or preservatives.

They are suitable for everyday laundry as well as delicate fabrics, baby clothing and sensitive-skin laundry. There is no added fragrance, although Aleppo soap does have its own characteristic smell from the olive and laurel oils.

The biodegradable flakes can be used for both machine and hand washing including in homes with sceptic tanks. Tadé recommends making them into a liquid in advance and storing it ready to use.

Dissolve 2–3 tablespoons of flakes in 1 litre of boiling water and leave to cool. Use around 50ml for a standard wash as a starting point, adjusting the amount for larger or particularly dirty loads.

For more heavily soiled washing or stubborn stains, Tadé recommends adding 1–2 tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda.

Expect to get 500+ washes out of one 750g pack, because we know you will use more than we tell you to! That's just 2–3p per wash.

And they're not just for laundry. Dissolved in water, the flakes make a useful household soap, floor cleaner and can also be used as the base for homemade cleaning products.

Aleppo soap is traditionally made by cooking olive oil and laurel berry oil together in cauldrons. These flakes are the pieces of soap created when the traditional cubes and bars are cut to size, so nothing is wasted.

    Did no gel

I made up this as a laundry detergent as instructed but the liquid has not turned to a gel. It has been 4 days now and I can see what looks like flakes at bottom half of litre jar. I used very hot water from a tap.......was this the problem rather than boiling water?

    Good morning Rosalyn
Sorry to read you have had issues with the flakes. Yes, you do need boiling water and to stir vigorously initially then keep stirring until they are fully discolved. It doesn't take long if the water is boiling.
You can still use the solution you have made, stir first though. Next time use water from the kettle or saucepan.

A small amount goes a long way! Made 2L of liquid detergent out of the 20g of flakes and did a great job at cleaning the clothes.

    Lovely clean smell

I'm still learning the right way to prepare this as a laundry liquid. I had read different instructions online about using hot water and stirring it, leaving it overnight and it gels up. However, when I followed the instructions on the back of the bag (20g flakes to 1 litre hot water), the solution did not gel up; it did, however, clean my clothes well. I've really enjoyed how fresh the laundry comes out. I do with there was a way to amplify and add this glorious clean aroma, but I'm not sure it's possible to capture the natural clean into the format of a scent booster. To that end, I am still using scent booster beads, but I ran a wash of towels with just this, some vinegar and some baking soda, and the towels just smelt fresh, with no odours. I'm still figuring out the right recipe for everything, but I really enjoy these flakes.

I've been reading other reviews on similar products and it seems like a lot of people do not go back after converting to soap flake wash. I feel like I'm genuinely being pulled in this direction. I still have oxygen bleach for my brights. I haven't ventured into a white wash with this yet, but I think it is only a matter of time before I do. :)
