Although often associated with modern eco-cleaning products, sodium percarbonate is based on simple mineral chemistry. Its ability to release oxygen when dissolved in water makes it one of the most effective non-chlorine cleaning agents available.

Used correctly, it can replace many specialist stain removers, whiteners and surface cleaners around the home.

NOTE: Sodium percarbonate works best in warm to hot water. At temperatures below 30–40°C the oxygen release is slower and cleaning performance is reduced.

Oxygen-Based Cleaning Powder

Sodium percarbonate is a powerful oxygen-based cleaning compound widely used for whitening laundry, removing organic stains and deep cleaning household surfaces.

Often referred to as oxygen bleach, it works by releasing active oxygen when dissolved in warm water. This oxygen helps break down organic stains such as tea, coffee, wine, sweat and food residues, lifting them from fabrics and surfaces so they can be rinsed away.

Unlike chlorine bleach, sodium percarbonate contains no chlorine, phosphates or fragrance. After use it breaks down into water, oxygen and washing soda, leaving no persistent residues.

Because of its effectiveness and simplicity, sodium percarbonate has become one of the most widely used ingredients in modern ecological cleaning systems.

Why Oxygen Cleaning Works

Sodium percarbonate is a compound of sodium carbonate (washing soda) and hydrogen peroxide.

When mixed with warm water it releases hydrogen peroxide, which produces active oxygen. This oxygen helps break down coloured organic molecules in stains, allowing them to lift from fabrics and surfaces.

At the same time the alkaline washing soda softens water and improves the effectiveness of other cleaning agents.

This combination makes sodium percarbonate particularly useful for laundry whitening, stain removal and deep household cleaning.
